Fly Fishing Colorado

The DD offers some of the most diverse waters on the western slope.  Here you have the opportunity to chase some of the biggest trout you can imagine in a wild, natural environment.

There are 2 lakes, Nokomis is 13 acres and Mohawksin is 2 acres. The biomass of fathead minnows and crawdads in these lakes grow meat-eating brutes! The lakes can be fished from boats, float tubes, or from shore.

The Big Somo creek that flows into Lake Nokomis is exclusive to the property. Working with a fisheries biologist it has been renovated with spawning habitat and brood waters. When the Browns run in November it is a sight to see! Although set up for spawning habitat, trophy fish hang here year around and offer exciting fishing for such a small water.

Little Somo creek is also exclusive to the property and runs parallel to the Uncompahgre River. The Little Somo meanders thru the alders along the river and is filled with beaver dams. This water is perfect for the fly fisher who likes to ‘bushwhack’ small stream pocket water.

The half mile of Uncompahgre River that flows thru the ranch is part of a 4 mile stretch of river that was renovated for fish and wildlife back in the early 90’s. The results can be seen in the fishing! About 10 miles up and downstream of the ranch are privately owned so the fishing pressure is light.

In addition to the waters of the DDRR we have access to the world famous Gunnison Gorge, the 3 forks of the Cimmarron River for high mountain cutthroat and brookies,  and the Uncompahgre tailwater below Ridgway reservoir.  Public water trips are guided through the best licensed fly shop in the area:
